January 17th - Gallery Night in the Historic Third Ward
Despite living in Milwaukee all my life, I had never been to any local galleries. I found out about Gallery Night in the Historic Third Ward and was excited to attend. Supporting local artists is important and discovering new art was something I was looking forward to. My mom and dad went with me. My parents are not avid fans of art, so this was also a new experience for them. My dad even said he didn't expect to enjoy it so much. It was snowy and cold that night, but it was fun nonetheless. Seeing all the variety of art forms and types inspired me to work harder and improve my skills. Due to COVID-19, I was unfortunately unable to go to any other art galleries.
MIAD
The first gallery I went to that night was the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design's bone gallery. Bones were the material for most of the pieces in the gallery. They were by various students and staff. Common themes I saw were death, the body, and different cultures. There was a piece that was comprised of bones put together in the shape of people dancing in a circle. Although I can't remember exactly what society the people were from, it was probably my favorite work. The use of space and balance was beautiful.

Tory Folliard Gallery
207 E. Buffalo St. |
This gallery was in 233 N. Milwaukee St. and was my favorite gallery. The works felt like classics and there were some artists answering questions near their pieces. The way the pieces were organized was thoughtful and well planned. The sculptures were given plenty of room and the lighting was soothing. There were many paintings, but the gems of the gallery were the sculptures and mixed media pieces.

This building had a lot of galleries in it. Each room had a different gallery, and I don't remember exactly where each gallery was. The ones pictures were my favorites in the building.
